Generations of Hope Community Garden
Nuestra Comunidad Development Corporation (Nuestra) and YouthBuild Boston (YBB) celebrated the grand reopening of the Generations of Hope Community Garden on Nightingale Street in Dorchester. The event marked the revival of a beautiful and bountiful, urban green space after it had fallen victim to neglect and disrepair. YBB students and staff, Nuestra Staff, and local resident gardeners joined The Boston Tree Party for a ceremonial planting of two apple trees to cap the occasion. Many of the gardeners are seniors who live in Nuestra's adjacent GrandFamilies and Hope in Dorchester housing developments. YBB students and staff led the reconstruction effort, which required extensive removal of debris and overgrowth. Students from the Boston Architectural College and Tufts University's Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning program played a key role in planning and designing the project, and were also on hand for the celebration.
