Building Climate Resilience, One Neighborhood at a Time
YouthBuild Boston is advancing climate resiliency across Boston, not just through infrastructure, but by preparing the next generation of leaders to do the work.
In neighborhoods most affected by rising temperatures and limited green space, our students are helping design and build solutions that matter. From cooling stations that provide relief during extreme heat, to green roofs installed on bus stops along Blue Hill Avenue, these projects directly address the realities of urban heat islands.
Through our partnership with GrowBoston, students are also constructing and installing 75 raised garden beds across the city, expanding access to fresh food while strengthening community spaces. At Haley House Farm, they’re building an outdoor kitchen that will support farm-to-table education and healthy eating.
Sustainability is embedded in every step of our work. Through deconstruction and material reuse, students learn how to reduce waste while building more responsibly.
This Earth Day, we celebrate the impact of young people leading the way toward a more sustainable, equitable Boston.
