Projects for the Community , built with the Community.
YouthBuild Boston projects provide essential vocational training in the fields of design and construction. These programs represent valuable resources for various community partners in the city of Boston and serve as dedicated spaces for learning while effectively contributing to the improvement of local neighborhoods.
Big Ideas,
Real Impact.
Immediate cooling, lasting resilience.
Lower Roxbury experiences higher temperatures than much of the city. In Summer 2025, YouthBuild Boston partnered with Resilient Cities Network, Dorchester Weather, and Architecture for Public Benefit to address the impact of extreme heat in the neighborhood.
Together, we helped launch four new community cooling stations and created a practical design toolkit to support cooling strategies in underserved urban areas.
These cooling stations provide immediate relief during heat waves and serve as spaces for community connection and learning. Through this work, our students and neighbors are taking an active role in building safer, more climate-ready communities.
Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let’s create something meaningful together.

Living Roof Bus Shelters on Blue Hill Avenue
Green Infrastructure in Action on Blue Hill Avenue
Along Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester, YouthBuild Boston partnered with Weston Nurseries and city collaborators to help bring climate resilience directly into the public realm through innovative living roof bus shelters. Installed along the MBTA’s #28 route, these green roofs help reduce urban heat, absorb stormwater, support pollinators, and create greener infrastructure in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by climate change. By contributing to the installation and stewardship of these bus shelters, our young people helped turn everyday transit spaces into visible examples of environmental justice and community-led design in action.
