Ybb x SHADE

Last month, five Carpentry Pre-apprentices from YouthBuild Boston (YBB) constructed a youth space with SHADE at Sennott Park in Cambridge. The shade structure provides heat protection in the summer and lighting in the evenings.

This marks the third summer SHADE has created a teen-led space at Sennott Park. The structure is temporary and created to combat rising summer temperatures. It acts as a designated space for local teenagers to gather and host programming during their school break.

"We're not reinventing the wheel. We're repurposing a system that already exists" Neil Daniel, YBB's Design Programs Manager said. "This is a kit that could be delivered anywhere that needs a shading structure or a place to activate land."
